This Wednesday, October 1, 2014, the mayor of the City of Luxembourg, Lydie Polfer (DP) announced that work on the Royal-Hamilius project should begin in the fall, either in September or October 2014.

According to the mayor of the City of Luxembourg, the work should begin in autumn, as no more legal appeals are now possible.  "It remains to finalize the agreements between the City and the selected companies," she added.

According to information from L'Essentiel, the construction site, which will take 48 months to complete, will consist of 73 homes, offices, 10,000 m2 of shops and restaurants and a 1,300 m2 shopping center, a "department store", in the style of a Kaufhof.

In addition, according to L'Essentiel, there will be public squares, one of which will be a terrace on the roof of a building and the other will be dedicated to events. The latter will be located between the Royal Boulevard, and Aldringen Street, opposite the Post Office. The whole site will be connected to the future streetcar line.

The project was supposed to be launched in 2012, but several appeals filed by local residents delayed the start of the work several times. Finally, the work was to begin in early 2014 after the residents gave up and the green light was given by the municipal authorities.
